A note on this story: Q Kyun is currently running as an early pilot in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh — every new venue starts with a free 30-day trial. This story reflects Sharma Diagnostics' experience during that pilot, shared to show how the token system, Controller app, and Mirror view work together at a real counter.

The morning rush, every single day.

Before the pilot, Sharma Diagnostics saw its heaviest crowd between 8 and 10 AM — patients arriving for tests and others returning for reports, all standing at the same counter asking the same question.

Before the pilot

  • × The reception desk fielded constant "kitna time lagega" questions during the morning rush.
  • × Patients stood or crowded the waiting bench with no idea how many people were ahead of them.
  • × Names were called out loud, which staff found disruptive during busy hours.
  • × There was no way for Dr. Sharma to check the queue without walking to the front desk.

During the pilot

  • ✓ Patients gave a missed call or scanned a QR code and got a token by SMS — no app install.
  • ✓ Reception ran the Controller screen: one tap to call the next token.
  • ✓ A recall SMS went out three positions before a patient's turn, so people could step outside.
  • ✓ Dr. Sharma checked the Mirror view on her own phone to see live queue status without leaving her desk.

The three screens that did the work.

The same three interfaces every Q Kyun pilot runs on, applied to a diagnostic centre's morning rush.

Patient SMS

Token & position

Patients received their token number and position by SMS the moment they checked in — no waiting-room guesswork.

Controller

Front-desk screen

The receptionist used a single "Next" action to move the queue, with the option to skip or pause when needed.

Mirror View

For Dr. Sharma

A read-only live view she could check from her own phone, without interrupting the front desk.

What the pilot changed.

Over the 30-day pilot, the front desk reported fewer patients standing at the counter during the 8–10 AM rush, since most people waited nearby or stepped out and returned when recalled. Staff also noted fewer repeated "how much longer" questions, since patients could check their own position by SMS instead of asking at the desk.

In her words
Patients used to crowd the reception asking ‘kitna time lagega.’ Now they check the SMS and come back when we recall them. The waiting area finally feels calm.
